Sisters and brothers are the truest, purest forms of love, family, and friendship

Sisters and brothers are the truest, purest forms of love, family, and friendship, knowing when to hold you and when to challenge you, but always being a part of you.
Carol Ann Albright Eastman
The purest form of bond is the bond that exists between a brother and a sister. An eternal comradery that is built upon a base of unconditional love, protection, and security.
This priceless bond has in fact been celebrated for Eons in the Indian subcontinent as the thread festival ‘Rakshabnadhan’.  Based on the concepts of protection and love, ‘rakshabandhan’ literally translates to mean ‘A bond of protection’. During this day sisters across the countryside tie a protective thread around their brother’s wrist in return for a promise of eternal affection and protection from their loved one. This ceremony is often followed by the exchange of gifts and a delectable feast!

Even though there are thousands of stories that surround the origin of this ceremony the one thing that stands out about this unique exchange is that it is not limited to the concepts of family, religion, community or any form of man-made discriminations. It is simply the validation of a bond that is shared by two people, protective about each other and sharing a bond comparable to that shared by siblings.
In the past, rakhi’s (the thread of bond) used to be handcrafted by sisters for their brothers. However, today, skilled artisans work tirelessly to create elaborate and detailed versions of the ‘bond of protection’ to enable the celebration of this priceless bond to continue for eons to come.
Therefore, today, Ziva too, in order to support and celebrate this unconditional bond, is working hand in hand with these talented craftsmen, to bring the unique opportunity of participating in this celebration of pure universal love with their handcrafted ‘rakhis’ made to be delivered right to your doorstep.
Happy ‘Rakshabandhan’! Happy Siblings’ Day!
